List Of Interred

Restoration & Preservation

Because records were poorly kept by Catholic Church priests and Protestant burials were not listed at all, the following lists have been complied from probates, funeral notices, family records and recollections, tombstone inscriptions and newspaper notices. There are still many omissions so, a list of unconfirmed burials follows the known ones. Researchers: Evelyn M. Thom and Barbara Strickland, September 1976. Please contact us if you know of any missing or incorrect information! On June 9, 1819, Garig donated the cemetery to the Congregation of the Roman Cath0lic Church in Baton Rouge, essentially, St. Joseph Church located in the town of Baton Rouge about three miles away. There is no evidence that the cemetery was ever actually, officially consecrated as a Catholic burial ground but it was certainly treated as such well into the twentieth century.
